Today marks the 1 year anniversary when the residents of Santa Cruz County were shocked by the news of Santa Cruz Police Detectives Loran 'Butch' Baker and Elizabeth Butler being tragically gunned down in the line of duty. Our community was devastated on February 26, 2013 as the events unfolded throughout the day, ultimately with the news that we had lost two of our own. In the hours and days following the events of February 26th, the community united in such a way as we have not seen before. Santa Cruz County residents flooded the Santa Cruz Police Department with nothing but support and praise for their daily services. Gone, but not forgotten, the Memorial Garden in honor of Detectives Baker and Butler will be unveiled at the Police Station this morning, Wednesday, February 26th at 10:30 a.m. For more information on tomorrow's dedication ceremony please visit the Santa Cruz Police Blog page by clicking here. There will also be another Memorial Ceremony at 5:30 p.m. at our local Emergency Dispatch Center "Netcom" located at 495 Upper Park Rd. Santa Cruz. Guests are asked to arrive no later than 5:15 p.m. For more information click here.
